Preview Roundups
April 22, 2019
Arizona at Pittsburgh 7:05 PM ET
One day after having their five-game winning streak halted, the Pittsburgh Pirates attempt to start a new one when they host the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday for the opener of their four-game set. Pittsburgh captured the final three contests of its 5-3 road trip and the first two meetings with San Francisco before dropping the series finale 3-2 on Sunday.
Chi. White Sox at Baltimore 7:05 PM ET
The Baltimore Orioles dropped the first three of their six-game homestand over the weekend to fall to 1-9 in their own stadium. The Orioles will try to turn things around at home when they host the Chicago White Sox in the opener of a three-game series on Monday.
Detroit at Boston 7:10 PM ET
The Boston Red Sox are coming off their first series sweep of the season after taking three at the Tampa Bay Rays over the weekend and hope to carry that momentum home. The Red Sox begin a 10-game homestand by hosting the Detroit Tigers in the opener of a four-game series on Monday.
Kansas City at Tampa Bay 7:10 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Rays are facing their first bit of adversity this season after losing four straight, and look to get things rolling again when they host the struggling Kansas City Royals on Monday night to open a three-game set. The American League East-leading Rays dropped the finale of their series with Baltimore to start the week and were swept in three games by Boston over the weekend by a combined total of four runs.
Philadelphia at NY Mets 7:10 PM ET
Steven Matz endured a nightmare performance in his last trip to the mound, surrendering eight runs (six earned) without recording an out against eight batters in the first inning at Philadelphia. The 27-year-old left-hander looks to atone after his infinity ERA effort in that contest elevated his season total three-plus runs when the New York Mets begin a 10-game homestand with the first of three contests versus the Phillies on Monday.
Milwaukee at St. Louis 7:45 PM ET
Christian Yelich is setting a blistering pace at the plate so far, and no opponent has been on the receiving end of his offensive outbursts in 2019 more than the St. Louis Cardinals. The reigning National League MVP will get another chance to torment the Cardinals on Monday, when his Milwaukee Brewers visit for the opener of their three-game series.
Minnesota at Houston 8:10 PM ET
The Minnesota Twins have been quite comfortable playing on the road this season and hope to continue the trend when they visit the Houston Astros for the first of three games Monday night. The Twins, who belted 11 homers in a doubleheader sweep Saturday at Baltimore, finished off the series with a 4-3 victory on Sunday and have won seven of their first 10 away from home this season.
Washington at Colorado 8:40 PM ET
The Colorado Rockies have put a disastrous 1-12 stretch in their rearview mirror by winning six of their last seven contests, including three of four to begin their seven-game homestand. The Rockies look to continue their strong play on Monday when they open a three-game set against the visiting Washington Nationals.
NY Yankees at LA Angels 10:07 PM ET
The New York Yankees have more players on the injured list than wins, but some unlikely sources have stepped up in the early going to keep them competitive in the American League East. Fresh off a fifth victory in six tries, New York begins a nine-game West Coast road trip on Monday with the opener of a four-game series against the Los Angeles Angels.
Texas at Oakland 10:07 PM ET
The Texas Rangers have produced 52 runs while winning six of their last seven games while the Oakland Athletics have scored only 16 while losing five of their last six contests. Texas hopes both trends continue when it kicks off its seven-game road trip Monday with the opener of a three-game series in Oakland.
