Preview Roundups
April 18, 2019
Arizona at Atlanta 12:10 PM ET
Adam Jones found himself caught up in the slow free-agent market last offseason and did not sign with the Arizona Diamondbacks until March 11, but the veteran outfielder comes into Thursday’s series finale at the Atlanta Braves showing no ill effects. The former Baltimore standout smashed his fifth homer for his new team and drew a 10th-inning, bases-loaded walk in Wednesday’s 3-2 victory, and he enters Thursday hitting .319 with a .999 OPS through 18 games.
San Francisco at Washington 1:05 PM ET
The Washington Nationals answered a rare power display by the San Francisco Giants with one of their own, belting four homers to even their three-game series at one victory apiece. The Nationals aim to salvage a split of their six-game homestand on Thursday afternoon when the clubs play the rubber match of their series.
Chi. White Sox at Detroit 1:10 PM ET
The Detroit Tigers have dropped back-to-back extra-inning games and five in a row overall, a painful slide they'll try to end when they begin a four-game series with the visiting Chicago White Sox on Thursday. After falling 4-3 in 10 innings in a series opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday, the Tigers lost a 3-2 affair - also in 10 frames - on Wednesday to sink below .500 for the first time since April 1.
Toronto at Minnesota 1:10 PM ET
Marwin Gonzalez has responded after sitting out the series opener with four hits and hopes to build off that while leading the Minnesota Twins to a split of the four-game set Thursday afternoon against the visiting Toronto Blue Jays. Gonzalez was 5-for-34 to start the season after signing a two-year $21 million deal with the Twins, but homered in Tuesday’s loss and singled home a run in the 4-1 win Wednesday to improve to 4-for-7 in the series.
Kansas City at NY Yankees 6:35 PM ET
The New York Yankees look to match their season best of three straight wins when they open a four-game series against the visiting Kansas City Royals on Thursday. New York completed a two-game sweep of the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday as Brett Gardner slugged a grand slam in the seventh inning to produce a 5-3 home victory.
Baltimore at Tampa Bay 7:10 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Rays have already clinched six straight series wins to open the season and the top team in the majors goes after a second sweep when the Baltimore Orioles visit for the finale of a three-game set Thursday night. Brandon Lowe remained hot with a three-run homer in the first inning as the Rays totaled 13 hits to post an 8-1 triumph Wednesday for their eighth victory in the last nine contests.
LA Dodgers at Milwaukee 8:10 PM ET
The Los Angeles Dodgers have relied on the long ball -- particularly at home -- this season and it rescued them again Wednesday to extend their winning streak to four games. Now back atop the National League West, the Dodgers will hope to continue to flex their muscles when they open a seven-game road trip at the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday night.
Philadelphia at Colorado 8:40 PM ET
Versatile Scott Kingery is making the most of his increased playing time with Jean Segura nursing a strained left hamstring. After belting a homer in back-to-back contests, Kingery will look to take his red-hot bat on the road Thursday as the Philadelphia Phillies begin a seven-game trek with the opener of a four-game series against the Colorado Rockies.
Seattle at LA Angels 10:07 PM ET
The Seattle Mariners look to halt a six-game losing streak when they visit the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday for the opener of a four-game set. Seattle opened the season with a franchise-best 13-2 start but the good times evaporated and Wednesday's 1-0 loss to the Cleveland Indians culminated an 0-6 homestand.
Cincinnati at San Diego 10:10 PM ET
The San Diego Padres got off to a bumpy start to their eight-game homestand with a pair of listless offensive performances but have a chance to turn things around against one of the National League's worst clubs. Having lost a season-high three in a row, the Padres look to get back on track when they open a four-game series against the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday night.
