Preview Roundups
April 09, 2019
Cleveland at Detroit 1:10 PM ET
Starting pitching has provided the impetus to the four-game winning streak for the Cleveland Indians but, oddly enough, right-hander Corey Kluber has not shared in that success. A two-time Cy Young Award winner, Kluber will look to break into the win column when the Indians open a nine-game road trip against the surging Detroit Tigers on Tuesday afternoon.
Toronto at Boston 2:05 PM ET
The Boston Red Sox will play in front of the home fans for the first time since winning their fourth World Series in 14 years ago last October, but they hardly have the look of a championship team after a disastrous 11-game road trip to open the season. Boston will raise a World Series banner before hosting the Toronto Blue Jays in Tuesday's opener of a two-game set.
Tampa Bay at Chi. White Sox 2:10 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Rays have pitched better than anyone in the majors the first two weeks of the season and look to continue the trend when they send Charlie Morton to the mound Tuesday afternoon against the host Chicago White Sox. The Rays starting pitchers have allowed 10 runs in 56 innings and the staff owns a league-best 1.80 ERA overall through the first 11 games after a 5-1 victory over the White Sox on Monday.
Miami at Cincinnati 6:40 PM ET
The Cincinnati Reds displayed a fair amount of fight in their last encounter, but not the kind that tilts the scoreboard in their favor. The reeling Reds aim to channel their aggression toward a positive result on Tuesday when they open a three-game series against the visiting Miami Marlins.
Oakland at Baltimore 7:05 PM ET
The Baltimore Orioles snapped a four-game losing streak with authority in the series opener and look to build off that effort when they host the stumbling Oakland Athletics for the second contest of a four-game set Tuesday night. The Orioles pounded out 15 hits Monday while getting four RBIs from Jonathan Villar, who extended his hitting streak to eight games with a homer and a single in the 12-4 triumph.
Washington at Philadelphia 7:05 PM ET
Although Bryce Harper wasn't able to torment the Washington Nationals like he did less than a week ago in the opener of a three-game set Monday, Rhys Hoskins was more than happy to pick up where he left off. Coming off his fourth career two-homer game, Hoskins hopes to continue his torrid hitting at home Tuesday when the Philadelphia Phillies continue their series with the Nationals.
Minnesota at NY Mets 7:10 PM ET
Jacob deGrom has started this season in grand fashion, authoring a pair of gems in which he has totaled 24 strikeouts while extending his scoreless innings streak to a career-best 26. DeGrom looks to add to those totals and eclipse Bob Gibson's major league record of 26 consecutive quality starts on Tuesday when the New York Mets open a two-game interleague series versus the visiting Minnesota Twins.
LA Dodgers at St. Louis 7:45 PM ET
After doing seemingly everything right in their first 10 games, the Los Angeles Dodgers finally encountered some adversity on Monday. The Dodgers look to bounce back when they continue their four-game series Tuesday against the host St. Louis Cardinals, who are seeking their first three-game winning streak of the young season.
NY Yankees at Houston 8:10 PM ET
Home cooking seems to be the elixir for what had been ailing for the Houston Astros, who have also quickly mastered the art of winning close games. Following their third one-run win in the last four outings, the Astros take aim at a fifth consecutive victory and look to remain unbeaten at home Tuesday when they host the New York Yankees in the middle contest of a three-game series.
Seattle at Kansas City 8:15 PM ET
The Seattle Mariners have slugged their way to history, belting a record 32 home runs over their first 12 games of the season. The club hopes to continue flexing its muscles when it continues its four-game set against the host Kansas City Royals on Tuesday.
Atlanta at Colorado 8:40 PM ET
The Colorado Rockies are struggling - whether it be hitting or pitching, on the road or at home - as they host the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday. After being outscored 29-14 while being swept of a three-game set against the Los Angeles Dodgers over the weekend to open their home schedule, Atlanta came to town and administered an 8-6 beating on Colorado, which has lost eight of its last nine contests since starting the season 2-0.
Texas at Arizona 9:40 PM ET
The Texas Rangers will be happy to not face superstar Mike Trout for the next week, a stretch that begins with the opener of a two-game interleague series at the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday. Trout led his Los Angeles Angels to three wins in four games against the Rangers while homering five times in the series, including a two-run blast to help ice Sunday's 7-2 triumph over Texas.
San Diego at San Francisco 9:45 PM ET
The San Francisco Giants’ new-look outfield paid instant dividends in the series opener, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a shaky outing by ace Madison Bumgarner. The Giants continue their three-game set Tuesday against the visiting San Diego Padres, who rallied from an early 5-0 deficit by scoring in three straight innings to complete the 6-5 comeback victory.
Milwaukee at LA Angels 10:07 PM ET
The Los Angeles Angels needed only five hits in the series opener to extend their winning streak to four games, with three of them being home runs. They look to clinch their second straight series victory when they host the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday for the middle contest of their three-game interleague set.
