Jonathan Quick made 29 saves for his 59th career shutout and the visiting New York Rangers scored three times in the second period en route to their third straight win, a 3-0 decision over the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night.

The 37-year-old Quick, making his second start for the Rangers, moved into a tie for 20th place on the all-time shutouts list with Evgeni Nabokov.

Adam Fox and Brayden Schneider each had a goal and an assist, Artemi Panarin had two assists and Alexis Lafreniere also scored for Metro Division-leading New York, which has won five of its first seven games this season.

Stuart Skinner made 29 saves for Edmonton, which suffered its sixth loss in seven games (1-5-1). The Oilers played their second consecutive game without Connor McDavid, the league's reigning MVP and scoring leader who is sidelined with an upper-body injury.

New York took command with three goals on 18 shots during a dominating second period that saw the Rangers also hit the post twice and Skinner stop Fox on a breakaway.

Fox made it 1-0 at the 3:22 mark with a power-play goal, roofing a one-timer from the bottom of the left circle off Vincent Trocheck's pass. Panarin also picked up an assist to extend his point streak to all seven games this season. He ended the night with three goals and seven assists during the streak.

Schneider increased the lead to 2-0 with his first goal of the season, creeping in from the blue line and firing a wrist shot from above the circles through traffic and past Skinner's blocker side.

Lafreniere scored for the third straight game and for the fourth time this season. At the 18:09 mark, he hit a one-timer off one knee from the right faceoff dot, off Panarin's cross-ice setup.

Edmonton, serenaded with boos at the end of the second period and also at the end of the game, had its best scoring chance with 7:15 remaining: Zach Hyman broke in free down the slot, but Quick gloved his wrist shot.
