LOS ANGELES -- Henrik Lundqvist was still angry more than 20 minutes after the New York Rangers blew a two-goal lead in the third period and lost 4-3 in overtime to the Los Angeles Kings at Staples Center on Thursday night.

Anze Kopitar's goal with 4:10 left in regulation forced overtime, and then the Kings' star center delivered the game-winner at 1:34 of the extra period, getting a stick on a Jake Muzzin blast.

Lundqvist was upset with Kopitar's tally that forced overtime. It occurred when Kopitar tipped in a Milan Lucic rocket with Tyler Toffoli in the crease. The officials reviewed the play for interference, but the request was denied.

"I'm so frustrated right now, I don't even know where to begin," Lundqvist said. "The rule is you can't have a guy in the crease. I can't come out to play the shot, and as a goalie, you try to make a save with a forward motion. And he doesn't make an effort to get out. And I can't believe the ref, after watching it, can't get it right."

Added Rangers coach Alain Vigneault, "I agree with my goaltender. At the end of the day, though, it doesn't really matter what he thinks or I think. If we ask about it, (the league is) going to have a great explanation as to why it was a goal."

The Kings bounced back after Kevin Hayes scored for a 3-1 Rangers lead at 2:46 of the third period.

"It is nice. It is obviously nice to score, but the most important thing is that we got two points," said Kopitar, who has 24 goals on the season. "They beat Anaheim last night, and we wanted to come out and get a little more cushion on Anaheim, and obviously winning in OT doesn't really matter because they are out East, but it is nice to get the two points."

Kyle Clifford's second goal of the season, on a beautiful backhanded pass from Jeff Carter, cut the Kings' deficit to one two minutes after Hayes scored. That set up Kopitar's heroics.

"He has done it before," Los Angeles right winger Dustin Brown said of Kopitar. "If it were up to him, he would probably like to play the Rangers a couple more times this year. He has five goals in two games and played the same in (Madison Square Garden), and he was huge for us tonight."

Dan Boyle and J.T. Miller also scored for the Rangers. Brown scored the Kings' first goal.

Goalie Jonathan Quick saved 23 shots for the Kings, who won their third in a row and their fifth in six games. The Kings (43-22-5) also swept the season series, as they earned a 5-4 overtime win on Feb. 12 at Madison Square Garden.

Los Angeles increased its Pacific Division lead to six points over the second-place Ducks.

The Rangers (40-23-8) fell for the third time in four contests despite getting 33 saves from Lundqvist.

"It was a great game, I think, from both clubs," Kings coach Darryl Sutter said. "The goalies were both really good. We had a lot of opportunities to go ahead, and Lundqvist made some big saves and they scored on a couple of opportunities to go up, and we killed that. That's all it is."

Miller put the Rangers up 1-0 at 11:34 of the first period. He gained possession after Lundqvist stuffed Tanner Pearson's attempt and took the puck the length of the ice and fired a shot through Quick's legs for an unassisted goal. It was Miller's 19th goal of the season.

Just 19 seconds later, Brown tied the score at 1, smoking a winner past Lundqvist despite Boyle clinging all over the Kings left winger. It was his 11th goal this season. Carter assisted on the goal, his 200th career point with the Kings.

Boyle delivered his seventh goal with 6:55 remaining in the second period to boost New York to a 2-1 advantage.

Los Angeles outshot New York 37-26.
