Blues 2, Rangers 1: Defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk scored a power-play goal early in the third period to snap a tie as visiting St. Louis rebounded from a lopsided loss to edge New York.

Alex Steen tallied for the second straight contest before exiting with a lower-body injury. Captain David Backes notched two assists and Jaroslav Halak turned aside 34 shots for the Blues, who were blitzed 7-1 by New Jersey on Tuesday.

Rick Nash continued his torrid surge by scoring for the 10th time in as many contests and Derek Stepan notched an assist to extend his point streak to four games. Henrik Lundqvist finished with 23 saves for the Rangers, who have dropped two in a row after winning six of their previous seven.

After drawing a slashing penalty on Nash, Shattenkirk gave St. Louis a 2-1 lead at 3:09 of the third by unleashing a blast from just inside the blue line. Backes provided a screen on Lundqvist, who was late to react to the shot.

Steen scored his career-high 26th goal midway through the first period as Jaden Schwartz's pass from along the left-wing boards caromed off his right skate and trickled past Lundqvist. Nash answered with 1:43 remaining in the second by burying a one-timer from the left faceoff circle for his team-leading 17th tally.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Schwartz, who was credited with an assist on Steen's goal, will be accompanied by the rest of the Blues to Yale on Friday as they honor his sister. Mandi Schwartz, who starred on the women's ice hockey team for three seasons, lost her battle with acute myeloid leukemia in December 2008. ... New York D Kevin Klein made his debut with his new team after being acquired from Nashville on Wednesday. Klein logged 15:46 of ice time. ... St. Louis C Maxim Lapierre (lower body) was activated from injured reserve and joined RW Vladimir Tarasenko (flu) in the lineup.
