Senators 2, Capitals 0: Craig Anderson turned aside 34 shots to register his 25th career shutout as Ottawa beat host Washington for the seventh consecutive time.

Kyle Turris and captain Jason Spezza each scored a goal as the Senators sent the reeling Capitals to their sixth consecutive defeat (0-4-2). Anderson recorded his third shutout of the season and improved to 7-0-0 in his last seven against Washington.

Braden Holtby made 24 saves for the Capitals, who dropped into sixth place in the Metropolitan Division with their longest losing streak since an eight-game slide (0-6-2) in December 2010. Playing without injured captain Alex Ovechkin, Washington was blanked for the first time since Nov. 20 and has scored seven goals during the six-game skid.

Ottawa, which improved to 7-1-2 in its last 10 games, broke the scoreless deadlock when Turris led a breakout from his own end and beat Holtby from the top of the right faceoff circle at 12:59 of the second period.

Spezza provided some insurance on the power play with 11:04 to play in the third, moving in from the left-wing boards and snapping a shot from just inside the circle that beat Holtby short side. It was the 13th goal of the season for Spezza and only his third in 15 games.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Ovechkin (lower body), who leads the league with 35 goals, was banged up in Sunday's loss to the New York Rangers, according to Capitals coach Adam Oates. ... Spezza's tally gave him 31 points (10 goals, 21 assists) in 32 games against Washington. ... The Capitals recalled D Nate Schmidt from Hershey of the American Hockey League while D Steve Oleksy cleared waivers and will report to the Bears.
