Rangers 7, Maple Leafs 1: Dominic Moore recorded his eighth career two-goal performance as visiting New York erupted for a season high in goals and shots (50) en route to its sixth victory in the last seven outings against Toronto.
Chris Kreider netted his team-leading 11th goal and Carl Hagelin, Benoit Pouliot, Brad Richards and Brian Boyle also scored for the Rangers, who saw 15 different players secure at least one point. Rookie Cam Talbot benefited from the offensive eruption and turned aside 25 shots as New York finished its five-game road trip with a 3-2-0 mark.
Jonathan Bernier yielded five goals on 32 shots before being relieved by James Reimer (16 saves). Joffrey Lupul scored late in the second period for the Maple Leafs, who fell flat in their first game since a spirited 3-2 shootout victory over Detroit in the Winter Classic.
After a lackluster 5-2 setback to Pittsburgh on Friday, New York exploded out of the gate and seized a quick two-goal advantage in the first period following an 18-7 barrage in shots. Hagelin deftly deflected defenseman Dan Girardi's point shot to open the scoring 6:57 into the session before Moore's sharp-angle wrist shot from deep in the left circle handcuffed Bernier exactly nine minutes later.
The Rangers maintained their intensity in the second as Derick Brassard's cross-slot feed was slammed home by Pouliot at 10:39 of the session. Kreider scored exactly four minutes later and Moore skated in from along the goal line for his second tally at 16:35.
GAME NOTEBOOK: With RW Derek Dorsett sidelined four-to-six weeks with a broken fibula, New York acquired rugged LW Daniel Carcillo from Los Angeles for a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2014 draft. ... The Rangers' previous high for goals in a game was five, accomplished four times this season in wins over Carolina (Nov. 2), Pittsburgh (Nov. 6), Florida (Nov. 27) and Vancouver (Nov. 30). ... Toronto D Tim Gleason was scratched after being acquired from Carolina on Wednesday for fellow D John-Michael Liles.
