Rangers 1, Canadiens 0: Rookie Cam Talbot registered his first career shutout by turning aside 22 shots and captain Ryan Callahan scored a power-play goal in the second period as New York snapped an eight-game road losing skid to Montreal.

Brad Richards and Derek Stepan notched assists on the Rangers' first tally against Carey Price since Jan. 15, 2011 - a span of 278 minutes, 28 seconds. New York made the slim offense stand up to record its seventh victory in nine outings overall - and first at the Bell Centre since March 17, 2009.

Making his fifth start, Talbot highlighted his special night by stopping 10 shots in the second period - and recording a bevy of saves during a flurry with just under six minutes to play in the third. The 26-year-old, who has not allowed more than two goals in any of his starts this season, posted the first shutout by a New York netminder in Montreal since Feb. 25, 1967.

Just as a 5-on-3 power-play advantage was coming to a close, New York provided Talbot all the offense he would need at 5:25 of the second period. Stepan set up Richards, who one-timed a shot from the left circle that deflected off the shaft of the stick of Callahan in front.

Price finished with 33 saves for the Canadiens, who fell to 2-4-2 in their last eight games.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Callahan's goal was his sixth of the season - and third in six games since returning to the lineup following a hand injury. ... Sidelined since Oct. 8 with a concussion, New York LW Rick Nash told reporters that he is eyeing a return to game action either Tuesday against Boston or Thursday versus Dallas. ... Montreal D Alexei Emelin made his season debut after having major knee surgery in the offseason.
