Senators 6, Canadiens 1: Craig Anderson made 33 saves and rookie Cory Conacher scored two goals as visiting Ottawa ousted second-seeded Montreal in five games.

Erik Condra had a goal and two assists while Zack Smith, Kyle Turris and captain Daniel Alfredsson also scored as the Senators claimed the final three games of the best-of-seven series. Seventh-seeded Ottawa became the first Eastern Conference team to advance to the second round.

Defenseman P.K. Subban scored the lone goal and backup goaltender Peter Budaj made 23 saves for the Northeast Division champion Canadiens, who again were stymied by Anderson and the league's best penalty-killing unit. Montreal failed to score on four straight power-play chances and also yielded a backbreaking short-handed tally by Turris.

Budaj, making his first career postseason start in place of an injured Carey Price, was shaky throughout and gave up a long rebound that Smith converted at 2:17 of the opening period to put the Senators ahead to stay. Conacher scored on a tap-in just over 10 minutes later, but Subban brought the home crowd to life with a power-play tally with 15 seconds left in the session.

The Canadiens had the man advantage when Tomas Plekanec shoved Turris into Budaj, and Condra alertly fired a shot that banked off the leg of his fallen teammate in the crease for a 3-1 edge at 11:29 of the second period. The goal was upheld by review, and Alfredsson sealed it just before the 6 1/2-minute mark of the third with a wrister that beat a screened Budaj for a 4-1 lead.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Turris scored in his third straight game and Anderson had 27 saves through the first two sessions for Ottawa, which outscored the Canadiens 12-0 in the third period of the series. ... Budaj was forced into action when Price was ruled out for the remainder of the first round of the playoffs due to a lower-body injury sustained in the final seconds of regulation in Game 4. ... Alfredsson, Conacher and Condra all had third-period power-play tallies as Ottawa went 3-for-5 with the man advantage - compared to 1-for-5 in the game and 3-for-19 in the series for Montreal.
