Senators 3, Flyers 1: Colin Greening scored a power-play goal to snap a tie with 5:36 remaining in the third period as visiting Ottawa ended a five-game losing streak.

Zack Smith scored in the first period and captain Daniel Alfredsson added an empty-net goal for the Senators, who hold the tiebreaker over the New York Islanders for sixth place in the Eastern Conference. Robin Lehner made 24 saves for his first win in three starts.

Captain Claude Giroux scored a short-handed goal and Ilya Bryzgalov stopped 31 shots for Philadelphia, which dropped its third straight contest and remained seven points behind the eighth-place New York Rangers with only eight games remaining.

After Giroux was assessed a double-minor for cutting Ottawa rookie Mika Zibanejad with a high stick at 13:53 of the third period, Greening fired a wrist shot from the top of the right faceoff circle over the left shoulder of Bryzgalov. The Senators entered the contest 1-for-21 on the power play in their previous five games and finished 1-for-6 against the Flyers.

Smith opened the scoring 3:20 into the game, when he skated in unchallenged and fooled Bryzgalov with a backhand deke. Giroux tied the contest 11:44 into the first period, tipping Simon Gagne’s shot from the high slot past Lehner.

Ottawa improved to 1-4-0 on its season-long seven-game road trip. The Senators conclude their trek with visits to New Jersey on Friday and Boston on Monday. ...
