Jets 4, Rangers 3: Evander Kane scored twice to extend his goal and point streaks to four and eight games respectively as Winnipeg finished its five-game road trip with a 4-1-0 record.
Former Ranger Olli Jokinen added two goals and Anthony Peluso recorded two assists for the first points of his career. Defenseman Ron Hainsey set up a pair of goals and Ondrej Pavelec finished with 30 saves for the Jets, who were shut out in both of their contests at Madison Square Garden last season.
Defenseman Anton Stralman collected a goal and an assist and captain Ryan Callahan and Taylor Pyatt also scored. Henrik Lundqvist turned aside 28 shots for the short-handed Rangers, who suffered their fourth consecutive loss while playing without top-line forward Rick Nash (undisclosed injury).
Pyatt brought the Rangers to within 3-2 after deflecting Stralman's point shot at 9:17 of the third period, but Kane answered 20 seconds later with a snap shot from the top of the right faceoff circle. Kane, who also set up Jokinen's first goal, has six goals and four assists during his point streak.
Stralman responded 53 seconds later after collecting the loose puck following Brad Richards' attempted feed to Marian Gaborik, but Pavelec held firm the rest of the way to preserve the victory.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Pavelec was playing in his 204th career game, tying Kari Lehtonen for the franchise lead. Lehtonen played with the then-Atlanta Thrashers from 2003-09. ... Nash returned to the ice for the morning skate and admitted that he was feeling better, but declined to elaborate on his injury. When asked if he had a concussion, Nash told reporters "that's up for the doctors to decide." ... New York acquired Jokinen from Calgary during the 2009-10 season. The Finn had four goals while playing the final 26 games with the Rangers before heading back to the Flames to start the 2010-11 campaign.
