Coyotes 4, Flames 0: Mike Smith made 30 saves for his third shutout of the season as host Phoenix won for the fourth time in five games.

Smith, who has 22 career shutouts, stopped eight shots in the first, 13 in the second and nine in the third. Antoine Vermette and Raffi Torres each had a goal and an assist for the Coyotes, while Mikkel Boedker and defenseman Keith Yandle also scored.

Daniel Taylor stopped 33 shots for the Flames in his first career NHL start after being recalled from the Abbotsford Heat of the American Hockey League on Saturday. Calgary was shut out for the first time this season after defeating the Dallas Stars 4-3 on Sunday.

With the Coyotes leading 1-0 after two periods, defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson set up two third-period goals. His wide shot from the point in the opening minute went to Boedker, who shot it through Taylor from a sharp angle, and Vermette stuffed in a rebound midway through the period off another Ekman-Larsson point shot.

Yandle opened the scoring at 41 seconds, pinching into the slot and one-timing a loose puck over Taylor’s glove. Torres’ shot from the right side boards eluded Taylor’s blocker with 3:11 remaining. David Moss assisted on both goals.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Taylor’s only previous NHL experience was one period of play on March 29, 2008 as a member of the Los Angeles Kings. Taylor stopped eight of 10 shots. … Boedker has points in the last two games after going five games with only one assist. … The Flames and the Coyotes will meet again in Calgary on Sunday.
