Rangers 4, Bruins 3 (SO): Captain Ryan Callahan scored in the fourth round of the shootout as visiting New York rebounded after squandering a late two-goal lead in the third period to extend its winning streak to a season-high three games.
Carl Hagelin added his third goal in two contests and Derek Stepan and defenseman Anton Stralman also scored. Henrik Lundqvist turned aside 37 shots before denying three shooters in the bonus format for the Rangers, who have handed the Bruins two of their three setbacks this season. Marian Gaborik scored a hat trick in New York's 4-3 overtime triumph over Boston on Jan. 23.
David Krejci backhanded a loose puck into the net 8:44 into the third period to thwart Lundqvist's bid for his first shutout of the season. Nathan Horton and Brad Marchand scored 48 seconds apart to forge a tie with 43 seconds left in regulation for the Bruins, who have outscored their foes in the third period by a 15-5 margin.
After Rick Nash and Marchand scored in the second and third rounds of the shootout, Callahan ended the drama by wiring a shot past Tuukka Rask and just under the crossbar in the top left corner. Rask finished with 26 saves.
With New York enjoying a 3-1 edge, Horton cleaned up a loose puck on the doorstep before Marchand collected a rebound 48 seconds later and beat Lundqvist from a sharp angle to tie the game.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Stralman's sharp-angle shot which trickled past Rask to give New York a 3-0 advantage was his first point of the season. ... Boston signed veteran Jay Pandolfo to a one-year, two-way contract on Tuesday. The 38-year-old Massachusetts native will receive $600,000 if he plays in the NHL - and $350,000 if he is in the American Hockey League. ... The Bruins, who failed to convert on four power-play opportunities on Tuesday, are 0-for-14 versus the Rangers this season.
