Mikko Rantanen, Carl Soderberg and Tyson Barrie each scored a goal and added an assist as the visiting Colorado Avalanche beat the Edmonton Oilers 4-1 Sunday night.

The Avs (8-6-3) ended their losing streak at five games, while the Oilers (8-8-1) suffered their fourth straight loss. The setback raised questions about the future of Oilers coach Todd McLellan, who is considered to be on the hot seat.

Colorado goaltender Semyon Varlamov stopped 26 of 27 shots, while Edmonton starter Cam Talbot recorded 12 saves on 15 shots in 25:06 of action. Oilers backup Mikko Koskinen allowed 1 goal on 13 shots.

The Avs scored on their lone power-play attempt, while the Oilers were blanked on two.

Soderberg's goal, on a one-timer off a pass from Barrie at 15:33 of the first period, proved to be the winner.

"We knew it was going to be a tough game," Barrie told Sportsnet. "We wanted to end that skid and I think we did a great job tonight, scoring a couple of early goals."

Alex Kerfoot also scored and Nathan MacKinnon had two assists for the Avs, who led 2-0 after the first period and 4-0 after the second. Ty Rattie replied for the Oilers.

Rantanen opened the scoring just 26 seconds into the game as he converted MacKinnon's rebound. After Soderberg scored his decisive goal, Kerfoot and Barrie increased Colorado's lead to 4-0 in the second period.

Kerfoot stuffed in a rebound on a power play at 5:06, spelling the end of Talbot's night. Then Barrie, a defenseman, moved up into the rush and one-timed Rantanen's cross-ice pass behind Koskinen.

Rattie spoiled Varlamov's shutout bid at 9:20 of the third period as he deflected in Adam Larsson's slapshot.

Oilers captain Connor McDavid, the two-time defending NHL scoring champion, was held without a point for the fifth time in six games.
