South Carolina’s highest point total since Steve Spurrier arrived was 52 points in 2006. The Gamecocks had eclipsed that mark by halftime. So much for a possible letdown.

South Carolina stormed out to a 28-0 lead and then cruised to a 69-24 win over Troy. South Carolina showed no signs of an emotional hangover after last week’s victory over Florida, which clinched the Gamecocks’ first division title in school history. No. 17 South Carolina (8-3, 5-3) scored on its first four possessions to take a 28-0 lead less than nine minutes into the game. Marcus Lattimore scored the first three touchdowns and finished with 102 yards on just seven carries. He and most of the starters sat out the second half as the Gamecocks led 56-0 at the half, thanks to interception returns by D.J. Swearinger and Chaz Sutton right before halftime.

Stephen Garcia had an efficient first half, completing nine of 12 passes for 196 yards and two touchdowns to Ace Sanders and Patrick Dimarco. Garcia also ran for a score. Lattimore three touchdowns give him 19 total on the year, one shy of the collegiate freshman record set by Reggie Cobb of Tennessee.

South Carolina travels to Clemson on Saturday and finishes the regular season versus Auburn. The Gamecocks will try to tie the school record of nine regular season wins, which they accomplished in 1984 when they finished 10-2.

Troy falls to 5-5.
