Texas got a big performance from quarterback Garrett Gilbert in a 51-17 victory over Florida Atlantic on Saturday in Austin, Texas.

Gilbert had one his best games of the season, completing 15 of 21 passes for 263 yards and two touchdowns. The sophomore threw long touchdown passes to James Kirkendoll and Malcolm Williams to put Texas up 24-7 at halftime. He also rushed for 60 yards and a score, leaving Longhorn fans wondering where this had been all season.

With the win, the Longhorns (5-6, 2-5 Big 12) snapped a four-game losing streak, but won’t be headed to a bowl game for the first time in 12 seasons.
Texas, after reaching last season’s national championship game, is left playing for pride when it ends a nightmare year against rival Texas A&M on Thanksgiving night.

Florida Atlantic stayed within two scores heading into the fourth quarter before Texas' Emmanuel Acho returned an interception 57 yards for a clinching touchdown.

Owl quarterback Jeff Van Camp threw for 210 yards and two touchdowns, but his two interceptions proved costly.

Florida Atlantic (4-6, 3-3 Sun Belt) needs wins at Middle Tennessee and against Troy to become bowl eligible.
