Cameron Newton didn't allow the off-the-field controversy affect his play against Chattanooga.

The Heisman frontrunner passed for 317 yards and four touchdowns to lead No. 2 Auburn to a 62-24 rout of the Mocs from the Football Championship Subdivision, Saturday at Jordan Hare Stadium.

Newton came under scrutiny this week after allegations surfaced that an acquaintance asked for a reported $200,000 to have him sign with Mississippi State out of junior college. Newton and his family denied the allegations, and Auburn coach Gene Chizik has defended his quarterback adamantly, saying Newton is "eligible to play at Auburn."

Newton threw three touchdowns and ran for a score in the first quarter, as the Tigers jumped out to a 27-0 lead. He finished 15-of-21 for 317 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions.

Mario Fannin added two scores, and Michael Dyer and Onterio McCalebb scored touchdowns to help the Tigers improve to 10-0.

Chattanooga (5-4) got a 98-yard kickoff return from Brian Sutherland in the second quarter, and quarterback B.J. Coleman threw a touchdown pass to Garrett Hughes.

Auburn hosts Georgia next week, before finishing the regular season at Alabama on Nov. 26.
