The Turner Gill coaching era at Kansas took a surprising turn for the
better on Saturday with a much-needed 28-25 win over visiting Georgia
Tech.
A week after opening the season with an ugly 6-3 loss to
visiting North Dakota State, quarterback Jordan Webb passed for three
touchdowns to help the Jayhawks stun the 15th-ranked and reigning ACC
champions at Memorial Stadium in Lawrence.
Webb, a freshman
making his first start in place of Kale Pick, completed 18 of 29
attempts for 179 yards and an interception for KU, which improved to 1-1
going into next Friday’s date at Southern Mississippi. His third
scoring pass of the day went to receiver Daymond Patterson, who took the
short pitch pass before eluding several would-be tacklers and racing 32
yards for a touchdown to extend KU’s lead to 28-17 with 14:19 left.
Joshua
Nesbitt ran for two touchdowns and threw for another for the Yellow
Jackets, who scored again to make things close before eventually falling
to 1-1 going into next week’s ACC opener at North Carolina.
