Wake Forest 90, Virginia Tech 79: C.J. Harris matched a career high with 29 points on 6-of-6 shooting from 3-point range as the host Demon Deacons routed the Hokies to snap a three-game losing streak and lock up the 10th seed in the ACC tournament.
Devin Thomas added 17 points and a game-high eight rebounds and freshman Arnaud William Adala Moto chipped in 16 points for Wake Forest (13-17, 6-12 ACC), which shot 60.9 percent in the first half en route to a 14-point lead at intermission. Codi Miller-McIntyre scored 10 points off the bench for the Demon Deacons, who will play seventh-seeded Maryland in the first round of the conference tournament Thursday night.
Erick Green, the nation's leading scorer, matched his career high with 35 points to lead Virginia Tech (13-18, 4-14). Marquis Rankin scored 15 points off the bench and Jarell Eddie added 13 for the 12th-seeded Hokies, who will play No. 5 North Carolina State in the first round of the ACC tournament.
Adala Moto scored five straight points and Thomas tallied seven as Wake Forest ran out to a 14-4 lead 3:39 into regulation. Back-to-back Harris 3-pointers pushed the cushion to 20-6 3:29 later before the Demon Deacons ultimately took a 41-27 lead into halftime.
After another Harris deep ball extended the Wake Forest advantage to 50-29 1:15 into the second half, Virginia Tech put together an 8-2 jaunt - capped by an Eddie three-point play - to pull within 52-37 with 16:21 to play. An 11-4 Demon Deacons response made the score 62-41 1:55 later and the Hokies got no closer than 12 from there.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Wake Forest shot 59.2 percent overall. ... Harris had scored nine points in two of his previous three games. He also scored 29 points in a 75-72 win over Boston College on Jan. 12. ... Virginia's 61-58 victory over Maryland gave the Cavaliers the No. 4 seed over North Carolina State.
