North Carolina 70, Georgia Tech 58: James Michael McAdoo scored 22 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and had four steals as the Tar Heels defeated the host Yellow Jackets for just the second time since 2002 in Atlanta.
Leslie McDonald finished with 15 points, including four 3-pointers, and P.J. Hairston added 10 points for North Carolina (18-8, 8-5 ACC), which moved into a tie for third place in the ACC with Virginia and North Carolina State.
Freshman swingman Marcus Georges-Hunt and Chris Bolden each scored 12 points and center Daniel Miller grabbed a season-high 12 rebounds to lead Georgia Tech (14-11, 4-9), which finished with 19 turnovers.
With forward Robert Carter hitting a pair of jumpers, Georgia Tech jumped out to an early 8-3 lead. But the Tar Heels rallied for a 36-30 halftime lead as McAdoo nearly had a double-double in the first half, finishing with 15 points and nine rebounds.
The Tar Heels then blew the game open with a 12-0 run midway through the second half, holding the Yellow Jackets scoreless for almost seven minutes while building a 59-41 lead. The Yellow Jackets never got any closer than 12 points the rest of the way.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Hairston nailed a 3-pointer for the first basket of the game, the 23rd straight game he made at least one trey -- which is the longest streak in the ACC. ... Georgia Tech was 0-for-6 at the free throw line in the first half, including missing the front end of two one-and-one's. ... McAdoo has eight double-doubles this season.
