Maryland 51, No. 15 North Carolina State 50: Alex Len tipped in a missed shot with 0.9 seconds left as the host Terrapins ended the Wolfpack’s 10-game winning streak.
Down to its final 5.2 seconds, Maryland (14-3, 2-2 ACC) benefited when N.C. State (14-3, 3-1) had a foul to give but elected not to foul. Pe’Shon Howard’s shot from the left baseline was short, but Len put home the rebound to give the Terrapins a 51-50 advantage.
Len scored Maryland’s final six points, leading the Terrapins with 10.
Lorenzo Brown scored 17 points to lead the Wolfpack. Playing for the first time since toppling top-ranked Duke on Saturday, N.C. State allowed the game’s first 10 points and trailed 42-32 with 9:35 remaining. A 16-3 run gave the Wolfpack their first lead at 48-45 on Scott Wood’s 3-pointer with 4:39 to go.
N.C. State, which came in as the nation’s top shooting team at 52.8 percent, shot just 31.1 percent.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Maryland also struggled offensively, shooting 34.4 percent. The Terrapins missed 16 consecutive shots in the first half. … N.C. State’s Richard Howell, who fueled the upset of Duke with 16 points and 18 rebounds, finished with eight points and 13 boards.
