Wake Forest 55, Virginia 52: C.J. Harris scored a game-high 16 points, making all eight of his free throws, as the host Demon Deacons staved off the Cavaliers for their ninth straight home win against their ACC rival.
After Joe Harris made two 3-pointers to pull Virginia within 53-52 with eight seconds left, C.J. Harris made his final two of six free throws in the final 1:19 to seal the win for Wake Forest (8-6, 1-1 ACC).
Travis McKie added 14 points for the Demon Deacons while Mike Tobey led Virginia (11-4, 1-1 ACC) with 14 points and seven rebounds. Joe Harris finished with 13 points and Akil Mitchell chipped in with 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Cavaliers.
Wake Forest ran out to a 29-22 halftime lead before an 11-4 run, keyed by five points from Arnaud William Adala Moto, pushed the cushion to 40-26 just 5:21 into the second half. Back-to-back Mitchell baskets cut the Cavaliers deficit to 46-39 with 7:34 left before an Evan Nolte 3-pointer made the score 50-46 with 59 seconds left.
Joe Harris' first 3-pointer pulled Virginia within 52-49, its closest deficit since 6:59 left in the first half, before Tyler Cavanaugh split two at the foul line.
