Florida State 71, Clemson 66: Okaro White scored 15 points and Terry Whisnant II and Terrance Shannon added 11 apiece as the visiting Seminoles held on to win their ACC opener.
Shannon also grabbed eight rebounds off the bench for Florida State (9-5, 1-0 ACC), which won for just the second time in its last 12 trips to Littlejohn Coliseum.
Devin Booker racked up 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead Clemson (8-5, 0-1). K.J. McDaniels added 15 points and freshman Jordan Roper scored 11 off the bench.
The Tigers held their only lead of the game at 4-2, then watched Florida State reel off a 17-2 run and take a 38-25 lead into halftime. Michael Snaer's 3-pointer seven seconds into the second half pushed it to 41-25 before Clemson began to chip away.
Clemson slowly reeled in the Seminoles, pulling within 66-63 with 37 seconds left and possession of the ball, but two turnovers in the final 20 seconds allowed the Seminoles to seal it at the foul line.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Florida State leading scorer Snaer was held to eight points on 2-of-7 shooting, only the second time this season he failed to score in double digits. … The teams have opened ACC play against one another the past three seasons. The home team had won the previous two contests. … Clemson dropped to 13-18 all-time when opening ACC play at home.
