Kansas State 67, No. 9 Florida 61: Will Spradling scored 13 of his 17 points in the first half as the Wildcats upset the Gators in Kansas City.
Rodney McGruder added 13 points and was the only other player in double figures for Kansas State (9-2), which notched its first non-conference win over a top 10 opponent since defeating ninth-ranked St. John’s on Dec. 16, 1961.
Florida (8-2) took its last lead at 19-17 with 7:55 left before the break, but Spradling drained a 3-pointer to spark a half-ending 16-4 run the Wildcats.
Although the Gators managed to knot it at 41, Kansas State took the lead for good on a 3-pointer by Martavious Irving. The Wildcats scored 16 of the next 22 points to restore a double-digit advantage and closed out the game by hitting six of their last eight free throws.
Patric Young logged his fourth double-double of the season with 19 points and 10 rebounds for Florida.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Opponents entered this game with only 12 blocks on Florida’s 481 field-goal attempts, but Kansas State turned away seven of the Gators’ 57 attempts in this contest, including five by Jordan Henriquez. … The Wildcats held a 35-25 rebounding edge and generated 16 assists on 20 baskets. … Kansas State first-year coach Bruce Weber collected his first win in three tries this season over a top 15 opponent, after double-digit losses against No. 2 Michigan and No. 14 Gonzaga.
