Texas 85, No. 19 North Carolina 67: Sheldon McClellan scored 18 points and Julien Lewis added 16 as the Longhorns pulled away late against the visiting Tar Heels.
Reggie Bullock led North Carolina (8-2) with 18 points and a career-high 13 rebounds, and James Michael McAdoo had 14 points and nine boards. The Tar Heels trailed by 13 at halftime before opening the second half on a 17-8 run.
North Carolina cut the lead to four when Bullock scored with 7:52 left, but Lewis hit a 3-pointer with 4:52 to play to put Texas ahead 68-58, and the Longhorns maintained control in the final minutes. Jonathan Holmes contributed 15 points and eight rebounds for Texas (7-4).
North Carolina shot a season-low 31.3 percent from the field, including 3-of-19 (15.8 percent) from 3-point range. The Tar Heels outrebounded the Longhorns 43-40, but committed 18 turnovers.
Freshman Ioannis Papapetrou recorded his first double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds for Texas, which improved to 87-3 in non-conference home games since the start of the 2002-03 season.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Texas played without starting PG Myck Kabongo, who remains out because of an ongoing NCAA investigation. … The Tar Heels have lost three of their past four games away from home. …Bullock’s 18 points are a season high.
