Richmond 62, Wake Forest 60: Derrick Williams scored 26 points, made 13 of 15 free throws and hauled in 10 rebounds as the host Spiders held off the Demon Deacons to earn their third straight victory in the head-to-head series.
Kendall Anthony added 11 points, including a crucial 3-pointer and four free throws in the final 1:11 to seal the victory for Richmond (6-2).
Devin Thomas led Wake Forest (3-4) with 11 points and six rebounds. Tyler Cavanaugh added 10 points and Travis McKie chipped in nine points and eight rebounds.
An 11-4 Spiders run, keyed by five Williams points, turned a 15-14 deficit into a 26-19 lead with 4:09 left in the half as Richmond took a 32-29 edge into halftime. A Williams layup with 11:17 left in regulation pushed the Richmond cushion to 44-35 before an Aaron Rountree III three-point play sparked an 8-0 run which pulled the Demon Deacons within 44-43 1:51 later.
A Codi Miller-McIntyre jumper gave Wake Forest a 49-48 lead with 6:41 left as the two teams battled back-and-forth down the stretch. After Thomas split at the free throw line to tie the game at 54 with 1:42 left, Anthony hit a 3-pointer 31 seconds later and made all four of his free throws to seal the win for Richmond.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Richmond shot 88.5 percent (23-of-26) from the foul line. … Rountree finished with nine points and was 3-for-3 from the field. … The Spiders are 6-0 at home this season.
