No. 3 Ohio State 91, Missouri-Kansas City 45: Deshaun Thomas led the way with 21 points and eight rebounds as the Buckeyes coasted past the visiting Kangaroos as part of the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off.
Lenzelle Smith Jr. added 13 points and six boards and Shannon Scott handed out a career-high 10 assists for Ohio State (4-0), which will challenge itself with a trip to No. 5 Duke on Wednesday.
Thomas scored seven points during a 20-3 run to open the game and Ohio State never looked back. The Buckeyes ended the opening period on an 18-2 burst to take a 53-18 lead into the break.
Thomas added six points in the first 2:45 of the second half before taking most of the rest of the night off.
Estan Tyler and Thomas Staton scored seven points apiece to lead UMKC (2-3), which shot 25.5 percent from the field and hit just one of 15 attempts from 3-point range.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Thomas needs five more points to reach 1,000 for his career. … The Buckeyes had a 40-25 edge on the boards, blocked 10 shots and forced 18 turnovers. … The Kangaroos fell to 0-15 all-time against ranked opponents. They will get another chance for their first win in that category when they visit No. 2 Louisville next month.
