No. 18 Baylor 78, Jackson State 47: Pierre Jackson had 25 points and seven assists as the Bears cruised past the Tigers for their second convincing home win in three days.
Cory Jefferson added 14 points, seven rebounds and six blocked shots while freshman Rico Gathers registered his first career double-double with 13 points and 11 boards for Baylor (2-0), which defeated Lehigh by 22 points on Friday.
Despite the absence of injured 7-foot-1 freshman center Isaiah Austin, who scored 22 points in just 17 minutes against the Mountain Hawks, the Bears’ front line toyed with the Tigers all game long en route to a 54-18 advantage inside the paint.
Following a jumper from Willie Readus at the 14:28 mark of the first half, the Bears held Jackson State (0-1) to one field goal over the next 9:08 as they built a 29-10 advantage. Baylor carried its dominance over to the second half, eventually leading by as many as 34 points.
Jeff Stubbs scored 16 points and Readus poured in 11 for the Tigers, who fell to 0-6 against the Bears.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Austin, who sprained his ankle in Baylor’s season-opening win, did not play. … The Bears won their 29th consecutive home game against an unranked non-conference opponent. … Baylor, which forced 17 miscues, enjoyed a 26-4 advantage on points off turnovers.
