South Carolina 82, UW-Milwaukee 75 (OT): Miguel Carrera recorded a double-double with 17 points and 15 rebounds as the Gamecocks overcame a 15-point deficit to begin the Frank Martin era with their 13th straight season-opening victory.
Brenton Williams scored 10 of his 14 points in overtime and made four free throws in the final 18 seconds to seal the victory. LaShay Page scored a team-high 19 points as South Carolina (1-0) shot 44.4 percent from the field and 83.9 percent (26-for-31) from the foul line.
After the Panthers (1-1) took a 38-23 lead into halftime, Page scored nine points in a 13-2 South Carolina run to start the second half. Jordan Aaron and Austin Arians responded with 11 straight points to push the cushion back to 15 points with 11:53 left.
A three-point play by Page 2:53 later cut the deficit to 54-47 and the Gamecocks scored the last eight points of regulation – capped by two Mindaugas Kacinas free throws with 18 seconds left to tie the game at 66-66 and force overtime.
Aaron scored a game-high 28 points - highlighted by seven 3-pointers - and James Haarsma added 14 points and 10 rebounds for UW-Milwaukee.
GAME NOTEBOOK: South Carolina outrebounded the Panthers 40-26. … Martin took the helm at South Carolina in March after compiling a 117-54 record and four NCAA Tournament appearences in five seasons at Kansas State. ... Lakeem Jackson added 12 points for South Carolina.
