IOWA STATE 65, KANSAS STATE 61: Scott Christopherson scored a game-high 29 points, including a critical 3-pointer late, as Iowa State earned the season sweep against the Wildcats.
Royce White finished with nine points, 12 rebounds and seven assists and Chris Allen added 10 points for the Cyclones (21-8, 11-5 Big 12), who can finish no worse than fourth in the conference standings.
The win, Iowa State’s third straight, didn’t come easy.
Kansas State (19-9, 8-8 Big 12) rallied back from a 37-27 halftime deficit and tied the game at 61 on Angel Rodriguez’s free throw with 1:43 left. But Christopherson, who made all five of his 3-point attempts, buried a long-range jumper on the ensuing possession to give the Cyclones a three-point lead.
The Wildcats missed three 3-pointers and a pair of free throws on their final four possessions, as the Cyclones held them without a field goal the rest of the way.
Jordan Henriquez finished with a team-high 19 points, 12 rebounds and seven blocks for Kansas State, which was coming off back-to-back wins against top-10 opponents. Rodney McGruder had 13 points and 11 rebounds and Rodriguez added 11 points and a career-high eight assists.
Kansas State opened the second half with a 17-1 run over the first seven minutes to take a 44-38 lead. The Cyclones, who shot 41 percent, misfired on their first 10 second-half attempts and didn’t score their first basket until Chris Babb’s 3-pointer pulled them within 44-43 with 12:46 left.
The Cyclones regained the lead for good moments later on a Christopherson jumper, and extended the advantage to as many as seven in the closing minutes.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Former K-State coach Tex Winter, celebrating his 90th birthday, was recognized during a media timeout in the first half … The Wildcats suffered their second home loss against an unranked opponent … Iowa State improved to 4-4 in Big 12 road games.
