BAYLOR 77, TEXAS 72: Quincy Acy had 22 points and a career-high 16 rebounds, and Pierre Jackson hit six straight free throws down the stretch to help No. 14 Baylor hold on for a comeback win at Texas.
It was the seventh double-double of the season for Acy, who made a number of big plays in the final minutes to help the Bears (23-5, 10-5 Big 12) secure the victory.
Jackson finished with a game-high 25 points, including 12-of-12 free-throw shooting.
Baylor and Texas (17-11, 7-8 Big 12) traded buckets to tie the game four separate times late in the game, but Acy scored seven straight points to turn a 63-63 tie into a 70-65 lead with 2:43 remaining.
The Longhorns cut it to 71-70 on a corner 3-pointer from Jonathan Holmes with 54 seconds left, but Jackson calmly sunk two free throws, and then J’Covan Brown turned the ball over on Texas’ ensuing possession.
Brown had 18 points on six 3-pointers to lead Texas, which led 36-26 at halftime. The Longhorns still desperately need a marquee victory to improve their chances at a 14th consecutive NCAA Tournament berth.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Baylor improved to 5-0 against Big 12 teams from the state of Texas … The Bears moved to 8-2 in games decided by five points or fewer this season … The Longhorns’ last chance at a big win is a trip to Kansas to close the regular season.
