SETON HALL 94, ST. JOHN’S 64: Jordan Theodore went for 16 points and 10 assists as Seton Hall picked up its third straight win with a blowout of St. John’s.
Brandon Mobley added 14 points and nine rebounds, and Herb Pope chipped in 10 and 10 in light duty for the Pirates (18-8, 7-7 Big East), who have recovered nicely from a six-game slide and are firmly back on the bubble for an NCAA Tournament berth.
Most of the struggles during the slide had to do with shooting woes, which were not a problem against the Red Storm (10-16, 4-10). Seton Hall buried 15 of 24 from beyond the arc and shot 62 percent from the field.
Theodore, Haralds Karis and Freddie Wilson each hit a 3-pointer during a 20-6 run in the first half that broke the game open. The Pirates would coast into the half with a 40-28 advantage and kept piling on after the break.
Seton Hall hit nine 3-pointers in the first 10:35 of the second half to push the lead to 75-45.
GAME NOTEBOOK: St. John’s shot 39 percent in suffering its fourth straight loss … Moe Harkless collected 15 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Red Storm … The Pirates now sit alone in eighth place in the Big East and will visit seventh-place Cincinnati on Saturday.
