Durand Scott scored 17 points as Miami cruised to an 84-54 victory in Florida over Appalachian State Friday.
Rion Brown chipped in 15 points for the Hurricanes (8-4), who won for the second time in as many games without leading Malcolm Scott while he is away from the team due to a death in his family.
Miami assumed control of this contest late in the first half when a jumper from Brown keyed a 12-3 run before intermission to turn a six-point lead into a 39-24 halftime advantage.
The Hurricanes shot 52.1 percent from the field – their lowest field-goal percentage over their last three games – but extended the bulge to as many as 34 points late in the second half to improve to 6-1 at home.
Miami enjoyed a 34-16 advantage in points in the paint and saw its bench outscore Appalachian State, 31-16.
Andre Williamson scored a game-high 19 points and was the only player to finish in double figures for the Mountaineers (5-7), who fell to 6-68 all-time against schools from the Atlantic Coast Conference.
