Gerald Robinson scored a season-high 22 points, including a layup with 2.4 seconds that forced overtime and enabled Georgia to escape with a 92-86 win over Winthrop on Tuesday in Athens.
Georgia (8-5) extended its winning streak to four games. Robinson was one of four players who scored in double figures for the Bulldogs: Dustin Ware added 20, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored 18 and Nemanja Djurisic with a career-high 17. Djurisic, who got more playing time due to the knee injury to leading rebounder Marcus Thornton, had a game-high nine rebounds.
The loss ruined a 33-point effort by Winthrop’s Andre Jones, who made 10 of 16 from the field, including four 3-pointers, and was 9-for-9 at the line. His previous high was 29 points against Marquette earlier this season.
Winthrop (4-9) lost for the third straight game. Derrick Henry added 15 points for the Eagles.
Georgia has now won four of five meetings against Winthrop.
