Freshman Andre Drummond scored a career-high 24 points on 11-of-12 shooting and added eight rebounds as No. 10 Connecticut coasted to a 77-40 victory over visiting Holy Cross on Sunday.
Alex Oriakhi scored 15 points and Shabazz Napier handed out 13 assists for the Huskies (9-1), who showed no rust after a 10-day finals break.
The Crusaders had no answer for Connecticut along the front line, as Drummond and Oriakhi consistently got inside on the smaller Patriot League players for easy dunks and layups.
The Huskies made their move at the end of the first half, getting a pair of 3-pointers from Jeremy Lamb and four points from DeAndre Daniels during an 18-3 burst to close the period, sending them into the break with a 43-24 edge.
Connecticut steadily stretched it out after the half, with Drummond and Napier hooking up for a series of alley-oops and easy baskets. Oriakhi’s layup with 3:04 left stretched it to 77-38 before coach Jim Calhoun emptied his bench.
The Huskies shot 50 percent from the floor and recorded 23 assists on 34 field goals.
R.J. Evans scored 15 points for the Crusaders (4-7), who shot 27 percent and committed 17 turnovers.
