Eric Evans scored 20 points and collected five steals to lead Duquesne to a 66-59 win over visiting Penn State on Saturday.
Jerry Jones added 14 points and T.J. McConnell had eight assists for the Dukes (6-4), who forced 23 turnovers and limited the Nittany Lions to 4 of 16 (25 percent) from beyond the arc.
The former Eastern 8 Conference rivals had not met in Pittsburgh since 1994.
Duquesne used an 11-0 run early in the second half to take a 48-39 lead with 13:02 to play. Evans highlighted the burst when he hit a layup in transition and was fouled, connecting on the free throw to complete the three-point play.
A three-point play by Jones three minutes later stretched the lead to 11 points.
Penn State would cut the lead to 63-59 in the final minute but Evans stole the ball on two straight possessions and Jones hit a pair of free throws with 10 seconds left to seal the victory for Duquesne.
Tim Frazier recorded 15 points, seven rebounds and six assists but was also one of four starters with at least three turnovers for the Nittany Lions (6-5), who have lost three straight and four of five.
