Tim Hardaway Jr. had a team-high 19 points and No. 15 Michigan held Iowa State’s offense mostly in check in the Wolverines’ 76-66 victory Saturday at Crisler Arena.
Hardaway, who was held to a season-low five points in Tuesday’s 70-58 loss to Virginia, finished 6-of-12 from the field and also had six rebounds. Jordan Morgan added 16 points — including 12 after halftime — for Michigan (6-2), which led 34-25 at the half.
Morgan’s dunk with 12:44 left helped the Wolverines extend their second-half lead to 22, their largest of the game.
Trey Burke, a freshman guard, added 13 points on 5-of-14 shooting for the Wolverines, who played their first home game since Nov. 17 after spending a week in Hawaii for the Maui Invitational. Zack Novak had eight points and a team-high 11 rebounds.
Royce White finished with a game-high 22 points and 13 rebounds for the Cyclones (5-3), who were held to just 35.8 percent shooting, including 6-of-27 from 3-point range. Iowa State’s previous low came Wednesday in a loss to Northern Iowa, when they shot 42 percent.
The Cyclones used a late 10-0 run to pull within 68-60 with 55 seconds left, but the Wolverines iced the game from the free-throw line.
Chris Allen and Chris Babb, a pair of transfers, finished a combined 6-of-28 for 16 points for the Cyclones, who fell to 4-5 all-time against Michigan.
