Ray Turner scored 16 points to lead Texas A&M to an easy
56-44 victory over visiting Alcorn State on Wednesday night.
Forward David Loubeau added 14 points for the Aggies (5-1),
who won their 64th consecutive non-conference game at Reed Arena despite a
dreadful outside shooting performance.
Twenty of Texas A&M’s first 24 field goals came in the
paint, and the Aggies finished 0-of-17 from 3-point range.
Freshman KeDorian Sullivan led Alcorn State (1-6) with 11
points off the bench. No starter for the Braves scored more than five points.
Texas A&M ended the first half on a 22-5 run to take a
30-17 halftime lead. During the spurt, Dash Harris had a nifty fake
behind-the-back pass and layup on a fast break that gave the Aggies their first
double-digit lead at 24-14.
The second half was ugly for Texas A&M, though, as the
team went without a field goal for a stretch of almost six minutes late in the
game.
