Led by Thomas Robinson’s 19 points, No. 14 Kansas throttled
Florida Atlantic 77-54 Wednesday at Allen Fieldhouse.
The Jayhawks (4-2), who spent the past week in Hawaii for
the Maui Invitational, played their first home game since Nov. 11. They got off
to a fast start, taking a 22-16 lead midway through the first half before
extending the advantage to 42-26 by halftime.
Kansas increased its lead to 59-39 with 10:37 left on a
Robinson free throw. Robinson, who went 11-of-13 from the free-throw line, had
10 of his points in the second half for Kansas, which improved to 2-0 all-time
against the Owls.
FAU (3-5) has had a knack for playing close games — six of its first seven were decided by seven points or less — but couldn’t cut the
deficit to single digits. Pablo Bertone, a sophomore guard, finished with a
team-high 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Dennis Mavin came off the bench to score 17 for the Owls,
who won the 2010-11 Sun Belt title and are the favorites to repeat as champs
this season.
Tyshawn Taylor had 18 points and Travis Releford added 11 for
Kansas, which held FAU to just 32.3 percent from the field.
