Ron Anderson Jr. led the way with 17 points as South Florida
rebounded from two straight losses for a 66-46 victory over visiting Georgia
Southern on Wednesday.
Anderson, who was one point short of matching his career
high, made 7-of-8 from the field. Blake Nash and Victor Rudd added nine points
each for the Bulls (4-2), who shot 61 percent from the field and won their
fourth straight at home to start the season.
Willie Powers led Georgia Southern (1-3) with 14 points.
The Bulls used a 12-0 run to take control early and led by
as many as 17 before Georgia Southern crept back within 31-22 at halftime.
Anderson had 10 points to lead USF, which shot 65 percent in the first half.
Freshman guard Anthony Collins, hampered by various
injuries, made his debut for South Florida and dished out five of his six
assists in the first 20 minutes.
USF’s second-leading scorer Augustus Gilchrist sat out the
game after sustaining a shoulder injury against Penn State on Sunday. Toarlyn Fitzpatrick,
who originally signed with Georgia Southern but was granted his release after
the coach who recruited him resigned, started for the Bulls in Gilchrist’s
place.
