The Wake Forest tandem of Travis McKie and C.J. Harris proved to be too much for Georgia Southern to handle, as the Demon Deacons posted an 81-72 win on Tuesday.
McKie scored 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds and Harris added 20 points and four steals for Wake Forest (2-0). They combined for 39 points in the opening win over Loyola.
Tony Chennault scored 14 and Chase Fischer added 13 points off the bench for Wake.
Harris scored 10 of his points in the first half as the Deacons rode to a 34-23 halftime lead over their opponents from the Southern Conference.
Wake converted 22 turnovers into 29 points.
Georgia Southern (0-2) hung tough thanks to the efforts of Jelani Hewitt, whose basket with 9:21 enabled the Eagles to cut the lead to 50-45, but they never got any closer. Hewitt scored 18 points and made 5 of 7 3-pointers. Eric Ferguson scored 18, Willie Powers scored 13 with seven assists and Ben Drayton added 12 points.
Wake Forest improved its all-time record against Georgia Southern to 3-0. The Eagles have now lost 20 straight road games dating back to Feb. 25, 2010 at Elon.
