Jacksonville State cut into the lead throughout the second half. The Gamecocks closed the margin to 67-57 with two minutes remaining, but could get no closer than 10 points.
Tarvin Gaines, who averaged 13.5 points in the first two games for the Gamecocks, was held to eight points and made 1-of-8 from the field.
