It’s been a long time since a non-conference team came to Columbia and beat Missouri. Six years to be exact. Phil Pressey scored 22 points and Kim English added 18 in an 81-63 win over Mercer, the Tigers’ 60th consecutive win against non-conference opponents at Mizzou Arena.
Sam Houston State is the last team to beat Missouri, winning 80-77 on November 14, 2005.
The Tigers (2-0) led by as many as 22 points in the second half, but Jibri Bryan, who led the visiting Bears with 19 points, knocked down three consecutive three-pointers, part of a 14-2 run that got Mercer within 10.
Mercer (1-1) fell to 0-4 against Missouri and 0-13 all-time against Big 12 schools.
Michael Dixon (14 points) came off the bench and provided a big spark for Missouri.
Mercer took its only lead at 4-2 on a putback by Jakob Gollon, but Missouri followed that with a 15-3 run.
