Florida State, using the brand of defense it has become known for under coach Leonard Hamilton, overwhelmed Central Florida 73-50 on Monday.
The Seminoles limited Central Florida to only 30.5 percent from the field (18 of 59). It was the 100th time in the last 102 games that the opposition was held under 50 percent from the floor.
Florida State (2-0) got a balanced attack, too, with four players scoring in double figures: James White made 8 of 9 and scored 18, Michael Snaer scored 15, Xavier Gibson scored 12, and Terrance Shannon scored 10. White had 11 rebounds and Gibson grabbed seven.
Central Florida (1-1) was led by Tristan Spurlock with 12 points. Marcus Jordan and Keith Clanton added 11 apiece and Clanton had a team-high six rebounds. Jordan had three steals, but turned it over five times.
Florida State improved to 9-0 against Central Florida, although it was their first meeting since 1988.
