Malcolm Delaney hit 10-of-11 free throws and finished with 16 points as Virginia Tech used a late surge to squeeze past Oklahoma State, 56-51, on Friday in the semifinals of the 76 Classic at Anaheim, California.
Jeff Allen added 11 points and seven rebounds for the Hokies (4-1), who will player the winner of the UNLV-Murray State contest on Sunday in the Finals. The Cowboys will face the loser of that matchup in the third-place game.
Oklahoma State (4-1) led, 29-26, at the half and stretched it to 45-38 after Ray Penn’s jumper with 6:02 left in the contest before the Hokies began to battle back. Delaney, Tyrone Garland and Victor Davila each scored four points during a 12-3 run over the next four minutes to give Virginia Tech a 50-48 lead with 1:59 remaining. The Hokies finished the game on an 18-3 spurt.
Virginia Tech held the Cowboys to 28.8 percent (17-of-59) shooting from the field, including 3-of-13 from beyond the arc.
Jan-Paul Olukemi scored 17 points off the bench for Oklahoma State.
