Marshon Brooks capped his brilliant home career in grand style with 28 points, including the tie-breaking basket in the closing seconds as Providence rallied to stun Rutgers 75-74 on Saturday to end a seven-game losing streak.

Brooks, who earlier in the game set the Big East Conference single-season scoring record, capped his record-setting night with a jumper in the lane with 11.6 seconds left to break a 73-73 tie and give Providence (15-16, 4-14 Big East) its only lead of the second half.

Rutgers (14-16, 5-13 Big East) had a chance to tie the game, but Mike Coburn missed the second of two free throws with 1.6 seconds remaining as the Scarlet Knights blew a 13-point lead in the second half.

Brooks, the second leading scorer in the nation, finished the Big East regular season with 468 points, and broke the old mark of 463 set by Connecticut’s Donyell Marshall in 1994.

Gerard Coleman and Vincent Council scored 15 points apiece for Providence. Freshman forward Gilvydas Biruta scored a career-high 21 for Rutgers.
