Reeves Nelson scored a career-high 27 points and grabbed 16 rebounds as host UCLA defeated No. 10 Arizona 71-49 to move into a tie for first place in the Pac-10 Conference Saturday.
It was the final game at Pauley Pavilion before the arena undergoes major renovations, and UCLA (21-8, 12-4 Pac-10) is still unsure where it will play the home portion of its schedule next season. In what seemed a fitting conclusion, the great grandson of legendary coach John Wooden, Taylor Trapani, scored the final basket at Pauley.
Nelson had a double-double by halftime (16 points, 10 rebounds) as UCLA held a 40-30 lead. The Bruins finished the first half on a 15-4 run and then scored the first 11 points of the second half to build a 51-30 advantage.
The Wildcats never got closer than nine points the rest of the way.
Freshman Joshua Smith had 17 points off the bench for UCLA and Tyler Honeycutt added 15.
Arizona, which has lost two straight, was led by Derrick Williams with 15 points and Kyle Fogg with 10. The Wildcats (23-6, 12-4) were outrebounded 38-23.
