Arizona’s Derrick Williams outdueled Washington State’s Klay Thompson to lead the No. 25 Wildcats to a 65-63 victory over the Cougars in Saturday’s matchup of the Pac-10’s top scorers.

Williams scored a team-high 17 points and grabbed 19 rebounds, and also helped shut down Thompson, who shot 4 of 16 from the field and finished with a season-low nine points. Thompson missed a jumper with 3 seconds left as Washington State (14-6, 4-4 Pac-10) had its two-game winning streak snapped.

Washington State led by as many as 11 points midway through the first half and a dunk by Marcus Capers put the Cougars ahead 45-37 with 11:58 left in the game, but Arizona kept chipping away.

Jamelle Horne hit 3-pointers on back-to-back trips down the floor to put Arizona (16-4, 5-2) ahead 62-57 with 1:41 left. The teams traded baskets, but the Wildcats made their free throws down the stretch to preserve the win.

DeAngelo Casto had 17 points and six rebounds for the Cougars, who face No. 20 Washington at home on Jan. 30.
