Klay Thompson scored 13 of his 21 points in the second half Saturday and Washington State handed Stanford its first home loss of the season, 61-58.
Stanford’s Josh Owens missed the second of his two free throws with seven seconds left that would have tied the game. After a quick Stanford foul, Washington State’s Abe Lodwick provided the final margin with two free throws.
Faisal Aden scored 20 for Washington State (13-5, 3-3 Pac-10), which trailed 32-23 at halftime. Thompson, the Pac-10’s leading scorer, was 9 of 20 from the field and tallied a team-high eight rebounds.
Stanford (10-6, 3-2) was 8-0 at home entering the game, but the Cardinal struggled offensively in the second half, shooting just 9 of 28 (32.1 percent). Jeremy Green led Stanford with 13 points, while Anthony Brown added 12.
Owens recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Dwight Powell had nine points and 10 rebounds.
Stanford had won 10 straight games when leading at the half dating back to last year.
Washington State earned its first Pac-10 road win after falling 88-81 in overtime Thursday to host California.
